The Altoona Fire and Rescue Department is located in the small hometown of Altoona, Wisconsin and has been in operation since 1887. AFD is comprised of a full-time Fire Chief, 1 full-time Assistant Fire Chief, 2 full-time Captains, and part-time staff who provide full-time fire protection, perform fire inspections and issue burning permits. AFD also provides emergency medical responses, pre-hospital care and assists with ambulance transportation contracted with the City of Eau Claire. In addition to protection and rescue, AFD creates and hosts community outreach and educational programs relating to fire prevention, first aid, and CPR. The Altoona Fire Department consists of 41 Firefighters, 32 EMS Personnel and operates one station under the direction of Chief Mark Renderman. AFD responds to approximately 1,000 calls a year, with around 15% being fire calls and the remaining 85% being EMS calls. To keep their skills sharp, AFD Firefighters and EMS personnel train on a weekly basis. The department operates and maintains three engines, one squad vehicle, one brush truck, one support vehicle, one Chief's vehicle, one heavy rescue trailer, one UTV and a rescue boat to provide comprehensive and complete community protection.
